This week was a bit more all-over-the-place in terms of accomplishments, so here's a summary of things I did:
1.) I tried to learn a little bit of Flash (wait no, apparently it's called Adobe Animate now?) but I quickly realized that it's maybe not the best idea until I learn how to actually animate without technology. :)
2.) I found some more good animation tutorials here: http://www.angryanimator.com/ and I'm using one of them to make a walk cycle.3.) I practiced drawing my walk cycle poses! And let me tell you, it's not as easy as it sounds, friends. CONTACT. RECOIL. PASSING. HIGH POINT. CONTACT. RECOIL. PASSING. HIGH POINT. REPEAT AD INFINITUM. (Well, the actual process is more like CONTACT. RECO-wait, that arc is messed up. Gotta go back and fix it! Aha, moving on. RECOIL! PASSING! HIGH POINT! oh, oops. didn't maintain the volume on the last passing frame. Which means the high point is also messed up and may not be salvageable. etc.) I would like to promise I'll have a pencil test up next post, but I don't know if that's a promise I'd be able to keep. I will, however, update you on my progress and keep plugging away. It's a difficult process to learn, but don't let my griping give you the idea that I'm not having fun. I am! I'm not going to let this beat me and I'm having a lot of fun with the process. :)
4.) I started trying to fulfill another 20-time requirement: find a mentor.
I was initially really excited about this because I have an uncle who works in the animation industry! And we're actually flying out to visit for spring break! The catch, however, which I found out later, is that your mentor can't be a family member. Which I'm kind of sad about, because it would have been perfect. But hey. C'est chill. I'll make it work. I am a bit worried now, because the problem is that it can be pretty tough to just find a mentor in the animation industry. It's a pretty specialized field, and most animators live out in California where the jobs are. Not to mention that mentoring a complete stranger (across a country no less!) is a pretty big commitment that not a lot of people probably want to take on. So this whole finding a mentor deal is going to be an ongoing challenge. I'll keep you updated on my progress as I attempt to find one.
HOWEVER! Guess what? Because my aunt and uncle are really nice, when we're out visiting them I get to go talk to some Disney TV and Dreamworks people they know! I'm so excited. But now I need YOUR help: what do you think some good questions to ask would be? What are the things I should try to find out more about? Please leave a comment and let me know what questions you think I should ask. :)
Until next time! As always, thank you so much for reading. I'm excited to hear from you in the comments!
I hear ya, sister, and I will totally change my policy if you are worried about a mentor. He is an expert. Use his knowledge. No worries. Thanks also for the detailed and fun post. I love all the smiley face tricks and tips. I can tell you're really pushing yourself. But where are your motivation peeps?
ReplyDeleteThank you! :) And my motivation partners are Richard and Dustin-Richard commented on my first post.
